"Above all, do not lose your desire to walk; every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness; I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it."
Søren Kierkegaard
Philosopher

Walk the trail

You can now walk in Søren Kierkegaard's footsteps on a 12 km long scenic hiking trail that starts and ends in Gilleleje harbor. Invite your friends, colleagues, kids, your mother or someone you've just met on the route to share the experience and immerse together. During the 12 km you will get 11 Kierkegaard quotes that pave the way for reflections and conversation.

It is entirely up to you whether you want to walk the whole trail in one go or whether you want to divide the experience into smaller bits. Every quote invites for reflection and conversation regardless of the sequence you experience them in. In this way it is possible for you to walk from for instance quote 9 - 5 if that is the route that suits you. If a quote requires longer time to immerse yourselves in, you also have the possibility of taking a break on a bench along the way before moving on to the next quote.

All you have to do is download the App ‘Kierkegaard by Nature’, put on a pair of good shoes, go to Gilleleje, let yourself be guided through the hiking trail and walk yourself to your best thoughts.,put on a pair of good shoes, go to Gilleleje and let yourself be guided through the hiking trail and walk yourself to your best thoughts.

When you experience the beautiful and diverse landscape of Gilleleje you will not be surprised why this was a place Kierkegaard came to often to walk. The route passes several scenic spots including Gilbjerget, which was one of his favorite places. Enjoy your walk!

Why hike?

Hiking in nature helps us get back to basics and strengthen the connection to ourselves. Humility arise in us when we see ourselves as part of something much bigger and we gain new perspectives.

When we walk together with others, shoulder to shoulder, a sense of community arises, and in motion the conversation flows more easily.

Walking has a positive influence on many aspects of one’s health and well-being. This applies, amongst other aspects, to your creativity, memory, ability to focus and mood. Body and mind are inextricably linked, and therefore it is about creating contact between these. If you choose to walk the entire route of 12 km, then you will experience a feeling of both physical and mental well-being afterwards.
